Yesterday was Knoxville’s high school graduation. A total of 117 students from Knoxville are ready for the next stage of their lives.
Thursday was the Senior walk-out, where underclassmen were able to honor and recognize the departing seniors.
On Friday the seniors walked through the other buildings. Above they are at Northstar. The students were excited to see the seniors and the seniors were able to see where their elementary school journey likely began. I saw a few tears of joy and fond remembrance from the seniors.

I had an excellent conversation with Alaina Marshall, a fourth-grader. Alaina tells me that she likes her teacher very much and that she enjoys reading and science. She was excited when I told her that she would be in Panther Tales and her video would be posted to YouTube! Enjoy!
It was such a nice day Angie Uitermarkt took her reading group outside to read.
It has been an exciting year for the Knoxville Public Schools. I sat down with Superintendent Cassi Pearson to talk about some of the highlights. In the foreground of the photo, you can see the list!
To share just a few highlights, they have expanded the three-year-old preschool program, created a K-12 program around character education and social skills, started mentorship programs, and more. She also highlighted the continued growth in the College and Career Readiness program. The Iowa Department of Education is recommending Knoxville’s program be used by other schools. Knoxville is leading the way!
She tells me that community support in Knoxville has been amazing. A total of $82,300 in scholarships were awarded to this year’s seniors!
This is just a start. Superintendent Pearson tells us much, much more in our interview below:
