Approximately 15 custodial staff received valuable training last week.
While I’m no expert, the man above, who I presume is a supplier representative, did a great job training, answering questions, and engaging with staff. I sat and listened for maybe ten or 15 minutes, and heard lessons in chemistry, mechanical engineering, best practices, and more. Staff had lots of questions and comments regarding various equipment and products. One of the things staff focused on with their questions was value. They wanted to make sure that the district is getting quality inventory at a fair price.
Juvelyn Wallace (l) and Vickie LeMay (r) told me about the training earlier in the morning before my short interview with them. They told me about the work they will accomplish over break, and shared that they feel valued by the school community. I’ve seen them interact with the students, and the students love them, and they love the students. They told me that the students are very helpful at times, and that they appreciate it. Surprisingly, summer is a busy time in the Knoxville School District. Volleyball practice has started, and the high school and middle school girls are shooting basketballs.
Some Stepping Stones kids are heading to the Rec Center.
In with the new, and out with the old. Last year the school board approved new playground equipment at West Elementary. The equipment being replaced was no longer suitable for the district. The new rubber surface will be safer, and will be more suitable for students in wheelchairs.

School Nurse Haili McKeever organized an effort to get much needed clothing to Greenfield so the Knoxville Schools could help with tornado relief. The boxes to the left are ready to go, and the clothing in the two photos to the right are being cleaned and processed. The kindness I see every day at Knoxville extends well beyond the halls of the school.
And, like always, the maintenance staff is hard at work. They are always busy. I regularly try to chat with them, but they are way to fast for me!
